“It’s happening in my body…”

Ask yourself the following questions:

When was the last time you felt like yourself?

Are you experiencing frightening pictures or memories that keep popping into your mind?

Are you having trouble sleeping?

Are you having stomach problems?

Is your heart racing all the time?

Do you feel like something bad is always going to happen?

Do you feel numb and depressed?

Are you feeling disconnected from everyone?

Even after a major life event or traumatic experience has passed, we often feel discomfort in our bodies. This can be in the form of lingering anxiety and sense of panic long after recovering from a surgery or big change. This might be realizing that we’ve not gotten our energy back after having a baby or suffering a loss. Perhaps the family is feeling disconnected as they navigate the challenges of growing children and professional responsibilities. Most people move on with their lives after a hardship, though have difficulty connecting with their loved ones or engaging in activities they once enjoyed.

Often times after the birth of a child (even if your child is not a baby anymore), women struggle to feel like themselves or to connect with a support system. Sometimes the desire to connect is there, though there are unspoken barriers to relationships. Postpartum anxiety and depression are common and treatable with compassion, awareness, education and community support. At Vida Somatic Therapy, women are empowered and supported to create a lifestyle that works for them and their families.

Children and adolescents might struggle to recover from changes in their home lives, school environments and their own bodies. These struggles are often hard to articulate, though can be soothed and communicated with the help of a trained therapist.
